Easy, Like Friday Morning

ATLANTA – Written by Mel

Many years ago, a group by the name of the Commodores featuring Lionel Richie had a popular hit song called “Easy.”  This song was about a man that had done all he could to please his woman but to no avail. As a result, he decided to leave because he just couldn’t take anymore.  The chorus of the song went like this:

That’s why I’m easy
I’m easy like Sunday morning
That’s why I’m easy
I’m easy like Sunday morning
Because I’m easy
Easy like Sunday morning
Because I’m easy
Easy like Sunday morning

Well, this article is not about painful break ups but I quote the chorus specifically because I want you to imagine how easy Sunday mornings are.  On Sundays you can rest for as long as you want; you can get up late and cook great breakfast;  you probably don’t have to be at work so you can sit around and do absolutely nothing all day long.  Can you imagine how easy Sunday mornings are for most people?  What if your Friday could be just as easy at least in terms of your fashion?

There is a phenomenon that has been a part of many American companies for several decades and this is the infamous dress-down Friday or casual Friday.  Some people, I admit, take it too far down on casual Friday and dress like they are at home on Sunday morning.  However, the goal of this post is to entice you to tone it down with class.  As a men’s stylist, I want to show you the proper way that it can be done.

You can start with these marvelous pants by AG.  They look like they are made of jean material but they are actually linen which is a nice, cool option for warm months.  Add to these pants this shirt by Theory.  It is a faux jean material which looks like jean material but is light and airy like the linen.

With this outfit you can either do a hard bottom lace up shoe like this one by Prada (left); or, if you want to keep it “easy” and get away from the formalities of a lace up, then opt for this loafer also by Prada (right).

Well let’s say that your company is not as “easy” as you would like and that first outfit just won’t cut it.  You can dress up while still dressing down by adding these charcoal slacks by Theory (left).  Add to it this long sleeve shirt also by Theory (middle).  If the long-sleeve shirt feels too formal for you, then replace it with the short sleeve polo instead by Theory (right).

Just as in the outfit above, you can opt for these hard bottom lace ups by Salvatore Ferragamo.  However, if you want to keep it laid back for Friday, then opt for these loafers also by Salvatore Ferragamo.

To finalize the outfit, you can accessorize with one of these leather bracelets by Miansai.
